I know stuff is going down, and one of them or both might even die in the next chapter, but do you know what? GAJEEL SAID THAT HE FELL FOR LEVY!! Not that he wanted to protect her because she was his guildmate. Not that he wanted to protect her because they were on the council together. But because HE FELL FOR HER. Which means it wasn’t just Levy being one-sided in the blushing and the caring about Gajeel. HE WAS FALLING FOR HER JUST THE SAME, he just didn’t show it as openly because it’s Gajeel.

And bringing up Gajeel, I just need to add this: THE FREAKING CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT HERE!! When we first met Gajeel, he was going down a bad path, one where all he cared about was being the strongest. One where he only cared about himself. He never would he have risked his life for any of his Phantom Lord guildmates. No. Not in a million years. Hell, even even hurt them from time to time. But here he is, almost 400 chapters later, RISKING HIS LIFE for not only his guildmates, but for the woman he just openly said he had fallen for. 

And, sure, maybe it isn’t “love”. Maybe it’s just “like”. But do you know what? That is OPEN like, or love, or whatever he feels for her! He not only shouted it out-loud, but told their ENEMY that he had fallen for her and that he was taking her back to the guild safely. Expressing your feelings in a vulnerable thing, one that takes a lot of courage and trust. So to not only be able to say it out-loud, but to proclaim it to whoever was around to hear, well, by god if that isn’t character development then I don’t know what is.

If anyone still thinks that Gajeel Redfox is a stupid, selfish, violent character, you need to seriously re-read this damned manga, take a look at your own life, and then promptly kiss the fattest part of my ass. 

Gajeel Redfox isn’t perfect, by any means. He has a lot of flaws. But he is trying to be better, and he is trying to be someone who can protect his guildmates and friends. And if you don’t see that, I feel truly sorry for you.
