if you have posted anything NSFW on tumblr, back your shit up now. tumblr is deleting blogs that have posted or been reported for nsfw content (even when the reports are false). it’s happened to three different people i know. all your blogs are deleted, not just the one you posted the content on, and it’s done without warning or notification.
to backup your blog, go into your settings, click the export button, and it’ll send a request for a backup of all the content on your blog that you’ll eventually receive in your email. unfortunately, no one’s been able to fix their blog yet and tumblr support is, as always, unresponsive.
in addition to this, posts that have links in them no longer show up as searchable in tags, so if you’re trying to bring attention to your art/fics/posts and put them in the tags, don’t put any links on them. they will not show up.
I just did this. Don’t want to risk anything. I’d advise doing the same.
Wow I really love how Tumblr increasingly gets more difficult for content creators to use every single year. 🙄🙄🙄
yeah, it’s really the best way to preserve everything! and i agree, as well. i always think about that post about how tumblr is like 3 developers sitting in an office and they’re not allowed to talk to each other so everything turns into a garbage fire.
also, more information on this!!!
so my current theory is that tumblr is deleting:
1. blogs that post in certain nsfw tags
and
2. blogs that have a certain number of reports on them
however, it’s clearly an algorithm doing this, which is why many nsfw blogs/blogs that post nsfw that abide by the guidelines and properly tag/post/filter things are being deleted. it also seems that tumblr is not checking reports, so blogs with a lot of false reports on them are being deleted.
the other thing is, this is technically a bug
tumblr is not doing this on purpose. tumblr is a garbage fire of programming, of course, and they have really shitty ways of trying to control the porn bots, but this seems to be a case of them making a program that is supposed to delete porn bot blogs and not putting enough programming into that bot or testing it enough, which results in the bot deleting anything that fits its very loose guidelines. obviously, i dont know this for sure, but from my experience with programming stuff and also being on tumblr for 7 years, that seems like it’s the case
people are able to get their blogs back! it seems support is replying to some requests and telling people that it is, in fact a bug! please follow the guidelines in that post to get your blog back if you have been deleted!
lastly, this is another good way to back up all your tumblr content. it doesn’t use the tumblr system to do it. it takes about ten minutes and the instructions are all in the link and it’s very easy to do. this way, you don’t have to wait for tumblr support to back it up for you.
feel free to add onto this/shoot me a message if anyone reading this has anymore info.
I think maybe we should all look into another website until this is over because this is seriously messed up. I advertise A LOT of my content on tumblr and stuff like this is not ok! How can I get my fan fictions out there? Or my art or my own work that I sell?
