You sure have seenthis post. It has spread like wildfire over the past few days so I doubt there is any artist out there who hasn’t seen it. But even if you didn’t, you should read on because I’m about to tell you a handy little thing that can help you to protect your art from such assholes as the anon who submitted this bullcrap, as well as art thieves in general.
The magic word is Metadata.
Metadata is like an invisible signature that is embeded into a file. It can contain all kinds of information, like Title, date, keywords for online seach engines, and copyright information. And the best thing is, since this information is “hidden” in the code of your picture, it’s hard to remove it.
There is a nice basic tutorial on how to add Metadata, or “additional file information” to your images in photoshop. It’s really, really easy so check it out!
I’m not sure if you can do the same with any other art program. If you know how to do this in other programs / can confirm that it works the same way there, please tell me so I can add the information to this post.
Adding the Metadata will not stop idiots from taking and reposting your art. It also won’t make them stop editing out your signature. It WILL however, help you prove that you are the original artist whenever you have to. Always remember my friends. You, the artist, are protected by law. No one has the right to take your intellectual property and hard work and repost, use or edit it without your permission. Ever.
So Fun fact about this story is that my brother gave me the idea indirectly when he was coming home for fire academy training.

Gajeel stared up at the plain white ceiling of the Dragon house 4 fire station, thinking about her. It was half past midnight yet his body couldn’t sleep rather he was awaking thinking of the one person who had made him the man he was today.
Never in his whole life could he imagine that he would ever be happy, that he would ever have peace with himself and the world. He was once a fierce and formidable member of the Phantom Lord, selling drugs, doing drugs and hooking up with just about anyone he wanted to, even getting what he wanted when he wanted.
Until he met her. She wasn’t afraid of him like most people. Rather, she offered up her small apartment to him one cold snowy night, after he had been shot in the shoulder. At time she was just a nurse in training now but soon became head of trauma department. What she didn’t know after that fateful night was how he began to watch over her from the shadows and slowly she began to break his iron cold heart. She was the reason why he had decided to leave the gang and become a different man. She made him do the one thing he had never done in his life and that was fight for something. When his past nearly took her from him he did everything in his power to get her back; from that day forward he knew that she was the one.
It wasn’t easy but no that the looked back upon it he wouldn’t have changed a single thing. Now he just wanted to go back home to her, after spending nearly a two weeks since he had last seen her, thanks to the recent firestorms plaguing Fiore. He still couldn’t get the sharp smell of the burning cinder and lingering smoke out of his hair or his skin.

Back when I was in high school for our senior health class the final part of it we learned what to do in an abusive relationship. We learned all about the signs, and what to do to get out of it. Everything I learned in that class helped me avoid two possible relationships that if I went through with it could have turned ugly and also helped a friend in a time of need. I truly wish they’d make it mandatory in all classes.

Check sources. Are there any external reputable sources? Has the OP deleted their post since publishing it? Are there asks on the OP’s tumblr providing truth against their post? Have they provided further info?
Google it. Confirm that it exists outside of tumblr, and on reputable sources. Check snopes.
Check the notes. Chances are, if it’s fake or misleading people have already commented or reblogged with facts proving so or providing more context. Clicking and scrolling through the notes for a bit is one of the easiest things you can do before reblogging.
We’re in terrifying times but lets make sure we’re mad at and taking action against the right things, and not sensationalist bullshit made to distract us or make ad money off of our fear.
THIS. The majority of Tumblr is English-speaking, but if you know other languages, double check news articles of other countries. Try to get the widest scope on the problem. Not only will this show you what other countries think of this situation, but you will also get good language practise.
Ugh I cannot express how much I think people should see this. I have a fb outside of my tumblr life and I can’t tell you how many people have been freaking out over false news or rumors or even fake news reports going on on tv (I don’t think the station my folks and I watch is reliable much to be honest) but it got to the point I couldn’t stand it and decided to take two days off of fb just until everyone calmed the heck down.
