ATTENTION: For anyone who reads fanfiction without leaving feedback

Here’s a few things you should know:

Fanfiction is a gift

Fic writers don’t have to share their works with you. They don’t have to write them at all. They do it and they share it because they’re fans of the show/book/movie etc. just like you, and they want to contribute to everyone’s enjoyment of fandom.

Fanfiction is hard to write

You need a lot of creativity and passion to write fic. You need a ton of motivation and drive to write a complete fic, let alone a good one. Fic authors write for hours and hours and hours, often staying up late into the night just to write. They write through job struggles and personal issues, resorting to phones and tablets when their computers are on the fritz, tapping away on public buses and trains just because they can’t find any other time to write.

Fanfiction is free

Fic writers give away thousands and thousands of words of pure fandom magic, and you get to consume all of it for the wonderful price of nothing. The only reward writers receive for themselves (besides a sense of accomplishment) is the response they get from you, the reader. Some don’t even feel that accomplishment until they see kudos and comments telling them how much their work was enjoyed.

Please.

No matter how much time you have, even just clicking the kudos button takes less than a second. And if you have time to read 5k words at one go, it’s no stretch at all to take a few more seconds to type ‘good job!’ or ‘i loved this!’ in the comment box and hit send.

Still not convinced?

1. IF YOU’RE EMBARRASSED / SHY,

Fic authors LOVE hearing from you. Don’t worry about whether you think you’re going to phrase your response well. That’s literally the last thing we care about. Just knowing that you had a good time with something we made is EVERYTHING to us.

2. IF YOU STILL JUST DON’T SEE THE POINT,

I have a very special challenge for you, my friend.

Write a fic.

Go forth, and write a complete, well-structured, well-characterised fic with organic, stimulating dialogue interwoven into a proper, fully fleshed-out storyline.

Publish your work for all the Internet to see.

And then get back to me.

I don’t comment much on other fan fictions; but I love all fanfic. But lately, I did notice a dwindling in the comments. It’s been pretty upsetting I admit and there were moments I was considering quitting fanfic writing. But to be honest, I rather just keep going and not give up

To celebrate the Fanfiction Writers Appreciation Day on August 21st, and following this post, here’s what you can do to show your favorite fanfiction writers how grateful you are for their work!

Whether you are just a reader or a writer as well, on August 21st:

  • Go on AO3, FF.net, Wattpad or any other fanfiction website, even Tumblr, and leave comments on your favorite fics. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already reviewed them, just do it again. It doesn’t even have to be a long comment, just show your appreciation. Tell the writers how much you love their fics. Let them know what they mean to you.
  • Since you’re there, give kudos, favorite their fics, vote, like them.
  • Send your favorite writers an encouraging message. Tell them how much you love their work. Tell them which of their fics is your favorite and why. Tell them why they’re important to you.
  • Make a post recommending some of your favorite fics to your followers so that they have a chance to read them as well and share them with others. Spread the word.

Make this a very special day for your favorite writers, but remember to nurture them often. They spend countless hours working on plots, developing characters and creating worlds that wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for them. And they do it for free, of their own accord and frequently during their free time. It takes hard work and commitment and love for what they’re doing. And they do it for them just as much as they do it for you, so appreciate it.

They give you infinite ways in which your favorite characters find love, go on adventures and get to experience different lives, new challenges. They give you unimaginable versions of your favorite stories that you’ll just never get to see in the official storyline. They give you the opportunity to fall in love with your favorite characters all over again. Be grateful for that and don’t be afraid to express it.

Show your favorite writers how much you appreciate them and you might just make their day. And a writer who knows that their work is loved is a happy writer. Never forget that. Always share your love 🙂

Would love it if everyone could do this!!!!

My first shot at creating a sort of tutorial/guide, telling how I do things. On this initial chapter we’re going over the handy matter of Hands.

Not meaning to be an encyclopedic explanation, only showing my own methods and self-taught clues. Hoping somebody finds it useful! :3 I’ll do more if this one is received well. So let me know~

My thanks also to the supporters in my Patreon campaign, who helped me decide which themes to focus on for a start. And are actually allowing this to happen. 😀 Cheers!

So I finally got around to reading chapter 19 of Ancient Scrawlings (which is an awesome story by the way) and I noticed the chapter might not be in the right story? I just wanted to see if you might have accidentally updated with a chapter for a different story, maybe?

Yeah I did lol I wasn’t paying attention this morning (thank you Doctor Who) and must’ve put in the wrong chapter. I did change it to the correct chapter though! Thank you for the message though!!
