I’ve been reading Edens Zero and I think I have some theories about chronophages
As we all know, chronophages or Time Wyverns are mysterious creatures from outer space that like to chow down on a planet’s time like sucking the juice out of an orange. After reading chapter 23, I think I have a few theories about these monstrosities of the Sakura cosmos.
1. Each and every single one is different in their own sense; but also share the same goals:
The time wyverns, while all sharing the same goal (which is taking a planet’s time) seem to have different ways in taking a planet’s time and have different results in how they do it. What do I mean by that? Take the chronophage who took Norma’s time, throughout the whole Norma arc, were taken back to Norma 50 years prior and learn from Professor Weisz that the Chronophage is creating a time bubble where it’s x492 forever.
But when I read chapter 23, I noticed that the planets are disappearing at a rapid rate. This gave me a small theory. What if the way a Chronophage consumes a planet leaves to different results?
For example: the time Wyvern who took time from Norma seemed like a savory type eater. Someone who enjoys every single savory bite of a meal and wants to enjoy the flavor of what they’re eating. Because of that, the time on Norma goes away slowly before the time wyvern sucked it dry, belched and moved on with its life.
The time wyvern heading for Guilst seems to be the type to rush when they eat. They seem to just scarf down a planet’s time and seems to be impatient with its meal.

It seems like someone in a rush to eat everything and try to just end its unsatisfied hunger.
2. Chronophages grow in size the more planets they eat:
This could be a good theory and kind of a state the obvious type one; but something tells me the more planets a chronophage absorbs, the much bigger they grow. Take a look at the chronophage above, noticed that it looks a bit bigger? Now look at the Norma Time Wyvern

Notice a difference? I do also think it’s possible that there’s a differation in species such as breed and what not, (could also explain my theory for theory 1) but I think the sizes are a bit different from each other.
3.Chronophages only go after dying planets:
Now, what makes me think of this is because of what Professor Weisz said in the flashback of the Norma arc: he told Rebecca and Happy the planet was dying so there was no point for them to move in with him. And right before Shiki, Happy and Rebecca made it to Norma, Elsie admitted to her crew that the planet Norma was already dead.
Guilist was at one time a tourist planet until it became seeded with prostitutes, space frog pimps, crack dealers, car jackers, nun androids with bad attitudes-ahem moving on. But it seems to me the planet has been dying for a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if the other ones this time wyvern just devoured are dying as well.
4. There’s going to be an arc surrounding time wyverns:
This is the second time we all ran into an issue with Chronophages. It seemed to me it was a rare but serious issue in space; but something is telling me we’re going to be seeing more of them soon and something tells me there’s something going on that will lead the gang to go after the Chronophages and see if there’s a way to defend the planets from being attacked by them in the future.
5. They’re made of Ether and devour Ether:
I remember Witch admitting that Eden’s zero was picking up a large abundance of Ether coming their way before she learned it was a Chronophage. I think the time wyverns are made from Ether and also devour not only the time of a planet but their Ether. Like one of my previous theories, I think they grow larger as time goes on, but it could be the Ether they devour the more power and growth in size they get.
Overall I do think they’re quite an issue and I think something is occurring behind the curtains that I think needs to be addressed as soon as possible. I hope they build like anti-Ether bullets to destroy these guys, or some form of defense.
